WEEKEND: Dog Days run to aid Humane Society

PORT ANGELES — The inaugural Dog Days 10K Fun Run/Walk on the Adventure Route of the Olympic Discovery Trail, a benefit and fundraiser for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, is planned Sunday.

Participants and their pets will start and end the race in the large parking lot located on the left-hand side of the road 1 mile up Dan Kelly Road.

The race course is a 10-kilometer loop that includes single-track forested trail as well as a portion of forested gravel road.

A pre-race meet is set for 9:30 a.m. for runners and 9:45 a.m. for walkers.

Runners will start at 10 a.m., with walkers following at 10:15 a.m.

Cost is $35 per person, and participation is limited to 125 registrants.

To register in advance, visit http://tinyurl.com/DogDayFunRun or search for “Dog Day 10K Fun Run/Walk” on Facebook.

‘Yappy Hour’

Registration also will be held during a “Yappy Hour” event at Harbinger Winery, 2358 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on race-eve Saturday.

A portion of drink sales at this event will be donated to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.

Interested participants also can register the day of the event (check or cash only), and day-of-race signees should arrive 30 minutes before the pre-race meetings.

To make an even bigger impact, participants are encouraged to collect donations from family, friends, colleagues and sponsors.
