PORT ANGELES — Jeff Tocher, a longtime painter of North Olympic Peninsula wildlife, beaches and weather — and an artist known for painting live bands in action at local venues — this summer became manager of the Landing Art Gallery, one of the Peninsula’s largest showcases for local art.
Tocher will host a free reception with many of his fellow artists this Saturday night to celebrate “Fresh Paint,” the Landing’s new show.
Singer, guitarist and songwriter Howly Slim will supply live music while Smugglers Landing, the restaurant next to the gallery in The Landing mall, will lay out snacks for the party from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Eight artists
“Fresh Paint” highlights eight of the gallery’s 44 artists, including Mike “Barky” Pace, who specializes in comedic cat portraits; abstract painters Terry Grasteit and Ellie Polk; mixed-media artist David Haight; jewelry-maker Diane Kohler; landscape painter Ann Arscott; fractal artist Pam Dick; and pastel painter Irene Loghry.
The gallery, on the ground floor of The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., was founded about five years ago by Sharon Shenar, who retired from her management post June 15. Its hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
