Annual awards
PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will announce the 2011 Business Leader of the Year and the Citizen of the Year on Sunday.
The award winners will be announced at a brunch beginning at 11 a.m. at Fort Worden Commons in Fort Worden State Park.
Tickets are $25. The chamber is requesting attendees purchase tickets ahead of time, though tickets will be available at the door.
Nominees for Business Leader of the Year are Pane D’Amore owner Linda Yakush, Realtors Charlie and Amy Arthur, former Wooden Boat Festival Executive Director Kaci Cronkhite, life coach Heather Flanagan and Kris Nelson, a businesswoman who owns Sirens and Galatea restaurants and is the Port Townsend deputy mayor.
Nominees for Citizen of the Year are YMCA Building Futures Director Kim Hammers; Gay Eisenberger and Mary Weeding, Port Townsend American Association of University Women Math Competency Program directors; and Rotarian Dave Stanko.

Solar orientation
PORT TOWNSEND — A Solarize Port Townsend orientation will be held at the Port Townsend Masonic Hall, 1338 Jefferson St., from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Power Trip Energy Corp. has developed a solar-photovoltaic group-purchasing program called Solarize Port Townsend that provides $300 to $700 per kilowatt cash rebates for those who sign up for a solar PV installation before April 30.

Marine film benefit
PORT TOWNSEND — A marine environment film series benefit will be held at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., on Saturday.
Three films will be screened at the event, “All Things Shellfish,” at 6:30 p.m.
The films are “Community Shellfish Farming,” “Almost Lost: Olympia Oyster” and “Almost Lost: Pacific Abalone.”
A raw and cooked shellfish bar sponsored by Taylor Shellfish will be served at this event.
Tickets are $13 for this event.
A portion of proceeds will benefit the Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee.
Contributors to the event include Leaping Frog Films, Jefferson County Marine Resource Committee, the Northwest Straits Commission and the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.
‘Troll Stroll’ slated
GARDINER — The Olympic Peninsula Explorers will hold a “Troll Stroll” club walk in Gardiner on Saturday.
The walk will begin at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101, at 9 a.m.
The trolls carved into the buildings and fence posts of the Troll Haven property will be viewed.
There will be both 5- and 10-kilometer options.
A carpool will leave the Sequim QFC at 8:30 a.m.
The event is free and open to the public. There is no “troll toll.”

Wine and cider
PORT TOWNSEND — The Friends of Fort Worden will hold a wine- and cider-tasting in the USO Building at Fort Worden State Park from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Memberships in Friends of Fort Worden will be available for $25. Otherwise, the event is $15 for the public.
It is free for Friends of Fort Worden members and one guest with a reservation.
Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Bon Appetit.

Bridge tournament
PORT TOWNSEND — Several hundred bridge players are expected at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds for a tournament this weekend.
The American Contract Bridge League’s annual sectional tournament is planned today through Sunday.
Open stratified pairs 199ers will play at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. today and Saturday. Stratified Swiss teams will play two sessions Sunday, with the first at 10:30 a.m. and the second to be announced.
Entry fees are $9 per session for members and $10 for nonmembers.

Galapagos Islands
PORT ANGELES — Bill and LaVonne Mueller of Sequim have made two trips to the Galapagos Islands, an isolated archipelago of volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean west of continental Ecuador.
The Muellers will talk about their travels at the last slide show of the Peninsula Trails Coalition’s Adventure Travel Series tonight.
“The Galapagos . . . Twice Is Nice!” will begin at 7 p.m. at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
The $5 admission fee will go to the coalition for the purchase of tools, equipment and lunches for volunteers who maintain and build the Olympic Discovery Trail.
Children 12 and younger will be admitted to the presentation free.

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Genealogical Society Research Library will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday to accommodate researchers who want to work on their genealogy projects.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Relay For Life Community Kickoff will be Saturday.

This is an opportunity to meet others involved in Relay For Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society; learn more about the society’s services; and hear of volunteer opportunities.

Members meeting
SEQUIM — The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley will hold its annual members meeting Saturday.
The meeting will be at 1 p.m. at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road.
The meeting originally was set for last Saturday but was postponed because of last week’s snowstorms.

‘Senior Night Live’
SEQUIM — Sequim High School seniors will present “Senior Night Live ’12,” a parody of the long-running sketch comedy series “Saturday Night Live,” beginning this weekend.
Performances will be held at the Sequim High School Performing Arts Center, 533 N. Sequim Ave., at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and again at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, and Friday, Feb. 3.
Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, children 12 and younger, and students with ASB cards. Tickets are sold at the door before each event.
Raffle tickets for $750 and $250 Costco gift cards will be sold.
Tickets will be sold at the Sequim QFC and Safeway Saturday and again Feb. 4.

Breakfast benefit
SEQUIM — Sequim Ladies of Elks will host a breakfast benefit at the lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday.
The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, link sausage, orange juice, coffee and tea.
Cost for adults is $5, ages 6-10 $3, with children younger than 5 admitted free.

Birding class, trip
SEQUIM — The Dungeness River Audubon Center will present a “Corvids in Winter” birding class and field trip from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Attendees will meet at the River Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, to begin the presentation.
A field trip will follow to see the birds in action.

Garden club tea party
FORKS — The Bogachiel Garden Club will hold its annual tea at St. Anne’s Parish Hall, 551 Fifth Ave., at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Advance tickets are $9 and are available at the Forks Outfitters or can be purchased at the door the day of the event.
This year’s theme is “Picnic in the Wild.”
The featured speaker is Lowell Diet of the Olympic Mycological Society, who will present information on “Foraging and Cultivating Mushrooms.”
