WEEKEND: Kings of Mongrel Folk, Colonels of Corn to perform in Port Townsend on Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Kings of Mongrel Folk, aka Orville Johnson and Mark Graham, plus the Colonels of Corn, aka the Canote Brothers, will perform at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St., this Saturday.

The 7 p.m. concert is a benefit for the Boiler Room, Port Townsend’s nonprofit coffee house and resource center. Tickets are $25 plus a nonperishable food item.

Johnson, a singer and player of the Dobro and guitar, and Graham, an equally irreverent sort, specialize in what’s called “seriously silly songs.”

Graham, in fact, has done numbers such as “I Can See Your Aura and It’s Ugly” and “Zen Gospel Singing.”

As for the Colonels of Corn, they are Greg and Jere Canote, identical twins who are into vintage Americana: forgotten fiddle tunes, swing classics, quirky novelty songs.

Tickets for Saturday’s benefit are available at www.seriouslysillysongs.brownpapertickets.com and at the Boiler Room itself.

Any remaining will be sold at the door of the maritime center.

To learn more about the coffee house, see www.ptbr.org — or stop in at the actual place at 711 Water St., Port Townsend.
