WEEKEND: Kirtan events Saturday, Sunday at Unity Church in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Unity Church and the Port Townsend Yogananda meditation group are inviting the public this weekend to a kirtan — a sacred chanting gathering with spiritual directors Hriman and Padma Gilloway — and to a film titled “Finding Happiness,” as well as a discussion and service Sunday.

All events are free, with donations accepted, at the Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center, 3918 San Juan Ave., across the street from Blue Heron Middle School.

The kirtan will run from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by the movie at 6:30 p.m.

Filmed at Ananda villages in California, Italy and India, “Finding Happiness” features footage of Swami Kriyananda, founder of the first Ananda world brotherhood community. The teachings of Yogananda, writer of Autobiography of a Yogi, are explored.

At the Unity center Sunday from 11 a.m. till noon, Hriman and Padma will give a talk titled “Finding Happiness,” lead chanting and conduct a “festival of light” service for feeling union with the Divine.

For more information about this weekend’s activities, phone Shakti Dieste at 360-379-0333.
