PORT ANGELES — The Black Diamond Community Hall will host the last contra dance of the season this Saturday.
The dance at the hall at 1942 Black Diamond Road will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a workshop for beginners. The dance will follow at 8 p.m.
Admission is a suggested donation of $8 for adults and $4 for those younger than 18 — or the equivalent in snacks to share during the break.
During the dance, the Powerhouse band will play and Michael Karcher will call.
“I’ve lost count of the times Michael has called for our dance, but I know our dancers really like him,” said Tom Shindler, organizer of the monthly contra dances in Port Angeles.
“He’s been having the time of his life calling around the Pacific Northwest over the last two years.
“When he isn’t calling, he’s pursuing a [doctorate] in statistics at the University of Washington and dancing in and around Seattle.”
Karcher encourages the public to attend.
“In addition to a great band and caller, we have the funnest, friendliest folks to dance with anywhere,” Shindler said.
The next season will begin in early September, Karcher said.
