WEEKEND: Performers to bring songs from Broadway to Peninsula

NOTE: “Today” and “tonight” represent Friday, July 19; Saturday is July 20; Sunday is July 21.

“Broadway and Bordeaux,” a revue featuring songs from the musicals “Chicago,” “Rent,” “Wicked,” “Carousel,” “The Fantasticks,” “Annie” and “Les Miserables,” is about to make two stops in Clallam County.

Singers Jaie Arianna Livingstone and Joel Yelland of Sequim presented their first Broadway and Bordeaux show together at Olympic Theatre Arts last year. Now, they’ve chosen a fresh set of songs to sing at Port Angeles’ Harbinger Winery, 2358 U.S. Highway 101 West, at 7 p.m. this Saturday. Then the duo, with accompanist Darrell Plank, will do a second show at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave. in Sequim, at 7:30 p.m. next Friday, July 26.

“We’re opening with ‘Lullaby of Broadway’ and singing duets: ‘Soon it’s Gonna Rain’ from ‘The Fantasticks,’ ‘If I Loved You’ from ‘Carousel,’ and “Make Believe” from ‘Showboat,’” promised Livingstone.

“From more modern shows, we’re sharing ‘Take Me or Leave Me’ from ‘Rent,’ ‘Follow Your Heart’ from ‘Urinetown’ and ‘Marriage Tango’ from ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.’”

The singers will also take on roles from “Wicked,” Stephen Schwartz’s “prequel” to “The Wizard of Oz”: Livingstone as Elphaba, the infamous witch who heads west, and Yelland as the Wizard.

Tickets to either show are $10, though Livingstone said no one will be turned away.

Wine will be available for purchase at Harbinger and at Olympic Theatre Arts; the latter show is a fundraiser for the community playhouse.

New this year is accompanist Darrell Plank, a frequent pianist for Olympic Theatre Arts. “He’s amazing,” Livingstone said. Plank has proven he can play “just about everything we put in front of him.”

For more information about Broadway & Bordeaux, phone Harbinger at 360-452-4262 or Olympic Theatre Arts at 360-683-7326.
