WEEKEND: Port Townsend Marine Science Center reopens Marine Exhibit

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will reopen its Marine Exhibit for the spring season today.

The center’s two exhibits — the Marine Exhibit and the Natural History Exhibit — will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday through June 9, when hours will expand to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday.

Hands-on

The center, which is on the beach at Fort Worden State Park, will offer a series of classes on marine food webs, marine mammals, low-tide walks and science on the dock with hands-on experiences, beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The class series is open to newcomers as well as current volunteers and continues Wednesdays through mid-June.

Nontoxic cleaners

Starting April 19, a do-it-yourself station in the Natural History Exhibit will offer numerous homemade nontoxic recipes for household cleaners.

The station will be available through May.

The Port Townsend Marine Science Center also features “Learning from Orcas: The Story of Hope,” which includes an orca skeleton and activities for visitors of all ages.

Admission to the center is $5 for adults, $3 for youths and free to members.
