PORT TOWNSEND — PT PlayFest, Key City Public Theatre’s 19th annual celebration of live theater, wraps up this weekend with free programs, performances and plenty of conversation.
Doris Baizley, a co-founder of LA Theatre Works, is PlayFest’s featured artist and the author of “Neel Beaux,” a new play that will take the stage at the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St., during tonight’s “Evening with Doris Baizley.”
Tickets are $20 for the 7:30 p.m. event at the Key City box office, 360-385-5278, and www.KeyCityPublicTheatre.org.
Baizley also will be part of a playwrights’ panel discussion Saturday and teach writing workshops Saturday and Sunday.
Readings, open rehearsals and full productions are also part of PlayFest’s final few days.
Festival passes
A festival pass, at $35, covers all performances, while the $95 writer’s pass includes all shows plus Baizley’s intensive workshop Sunday for playwrights.
Tonight’s presentation of “Neel Beaux” will feature Port Townsend actress Michelle Hensel and Key City Public Theatre apprentice Jordan Carlson as a pair of artists from different eras. They engage in conversation — and then Baizley will extend that discussion of art and life with the playhouse audience.
Baizley will then teach a free playwriting workshop — for writers of all levels — from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pope Marine Building, 603 Water St.
On Sunday, she will offer an intensive workshop at the Pope Marine Building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for playwrights with works in progress.
The fee for Sunday’s intensive is $75, and as with the free Saturday workshop, participants should call or email ahead to ensure a seat: rsvp@keycitypublictheatre.org or 360-385-5278.
