WEEKEND: Tickets on sale for Olympic Medical Center Foundation heart lunch

SEQUIM — Tickets are on sale for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation’s sixth annual Red, Set, Go! heart luncheon set for SunLand Golf & Country Club on Friday, Feb. 1.

Dr. Sarah Speck of the Swedish Medical Center Seattle Heart & Vascular Institute will be the keynote speaker.

Her focus will be on prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Larri Ann Mishko of the Jamestown Medical Center will serve as master of ceremonies.

Tickets are $50.

Women’s heart health

In 2008, the OMC Foundation launched a three-year campaign to raise awareness about heart health for women on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The campaign was so successful that the foundation committed to another three-year campaign in 2010, said Sara Maloney, event chairwoman.

Maloney said the educational lunch will remain an annual event indefinitely because the key to eradicating heart disease is education.

“The purpose of our event is to inspire women to become more educated to improve their heart health,” Maloney said.

“Many women are surprised to learn that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.”

Use of proceeds

In the first five years, the event has raised $190,000 to benefit patients being treated through Olympic Medical Center’s cardiac services department.

Proceeds from the events also allowed the foundation to work with local law enforcement agencies to launch a communitywide Automated External Defibrillator program.

All proceeds raised at the educational luncheon will once again benefit local patients with heart disease.

The presenting sponsor, with $7,500, is the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe. Gold sponsors, with $5,000, are Extendicare and Swedish Medical Center. Silver sponsor, with $2,500, is the Sequim Gazette.

Bronze sponsors, with $1,250, are Airlift Northwest, Assured Hospice of Clallam & Jefferson Counties, Astellas Pharma US Inc., Avamere Rehabilitation of Sequim, Family Medicine of Port Angeles, Karen Rogers Consulting, RE/MAX 5th Avenue, Soroptimists of Port Angeles–Jet Set and Dr. Kara Kurtz Urnes.

To buy tickets, phone the OMC Foundation at 360-417-7144.
