COYLE — The Village Idiots, a band featuring Franco Bertucci of Locust Street Taxi, Greg Brotherton of Frenetic Productions and John Sanders of the Groove Merchants, is the next act to arrive here for a Concerts in the Woods event at 7:30 Saturday night.
“I’m never sure what to expect next from Greg and his friends, but it should be a fun night,” said Norm Johnson, host of the music series at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road.
Johnson and Brotherton know each other from working on the Quilcene Fair together, and now he’s booked the band for Saturday’s all-ages show. As usual at the community center, admission is by donation, and coffee and cookies will be served at intermission.
“The Village Idiots play twang with a drop of the hard stuff. With an eclectic mix of originals, old songs and really old songs, we are trying to bring back the old folk tradition,” said Brotherton, the banjo and mandolin player.
Brotherton and Sanders, who mans the double bass while Bertucci sings and plays guitar, started out playing for fun on the back porch.
“We believe music should be played, and listened to, where you are,” said Brotherton. “The strum of the banjo on the back porch means more than all the studio music in the world.”
The Village Idiots do have a video online, however: “The Salmon Came Running Down” is on YouTube.com. More about them can be found on Facebook via “VillageIdiotsOlyPen.”
Information and directions to the community center await at www.coyleconcerts.com, while would-be concertgoers can also contact Johnson at 360-765-3449 or johnson5485@msn.com.
