WEEKEND: Yak, cheese-making among highlights of Wine & Cheese Tour starting Saturday

The Olympic Peninsula Wineries’ Northwest Wine & Cheese Tour will offer some new sights this weekend.

The self-guided tour is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Wine specials will be available throughout the weekend at 10 wineries and cideries in Chimacum, Port Townsend, Sequim and Port Angeles and on Marrowstone Island.

Advance tickets are available online at www.olympicpeninsulawineries.org for $35.

Tickets will be $40 at the door of participating wineries all weekend.

Tour tickets include wine and cheese tasting at all 10 wineries and cideries plus a commemorative wineglass.

Independently, each venue charges a $7 tasting fee.

Special events

While each venue will offer a selection of cheese and artisan wine pairings, special events are planned as well.

A Tibetan yak will be a special guest Sunday at Finnriver Farm & Cidery in Chimacum.

A crew from Yaks in the Cradle farm in Quilcene will bring the animal for guests to meet.

Eaglemount Wine & Cider will show off its new tasting room at the historic Palindrome in Port Townsend.

The property also houses the Arcadia

Inn, a 1908 Craftsman farmhouse that will become a bed-and-breakfast.

Wind Rose Cellars in Sequim will offer live music beginning tonight, with Me and Boys playing bluegrass from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Blue Rooster will play a mixture of blues and rockabilly from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

At Olympic Cellars in Port Angeles, winemaker Greg Vogtritter will demonstrate how to make cheese.

Do-it-yourself kits will be available for those who want to try it at home.
