WASHINGTON — The face of the North Olympic Peninsula hasn’t changed much in seven years, beyond being a bit more weathered and creased.
And, of course, there are more faces, period.
Figures released recently by the U.S. Census Bureau put Clallam County’s population at 70,474, up 8.4 percent from 64,525 in the 2000 census.
Jefferson County swelled from 25,593 to 29,199, a 12.3 percent gain.
Census estimates showed nearly 50-50 splits between women and men in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Women in Clallam County edged ahead a mite over men with a small shift — four-tenths of 1 percent — while men reversed the trend by the same margin in Jefferson County.
