Elementary school children in Forks, Neah Bay and LaPush will have the opportunity to write and publish books this week.
Undergraduate students from the University of Washington organized projects combining literacy and art as part of the volunteer-based Alternative Spring Break program.
Students from Forks and Neah Bay elementary schools and the Quileute Tribal School will create stories and pictures for the books with the help of university mentors.
The final version will be printed and bound and students will create their own cover illustrations.
A culminating festival for the published works will be held at each school at the end of the week.
