CLALLAM BAY — Clallam County officials have filed applications for state hydraulics permits to rebuild bridge access to Clallam Bay Community Park’s beach.
“We hope to get the repair project going and plan to begin next week,” Craig Jacobs, county Public Works Department director, said Wednesday.
About two months ago, winter storms and high tides on Clallam Bay combined with Clallam River flooding to breach Clallam Spit.
The breach wiped out much of the park’s picnic area and washed out the beachside trail leading to the park bridge spanning the river.
Jacobs and county Parks Director Joel Winborn on Tuesday visited the park to find another five feet and more trees had been lost to erosion.
