FORKS — The 38th annual Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction raised $69,000 during two days of bidding over the weekend in the lobby of Forks’ Bank of America building.
The money provides scholarships so graduates of Forks High School and the Quillayute tribal school in LaPush may continue their education.
“Everyone saves their money to spend at the auction. Forks really stands behind its kids,” said Dave Robinson, one of the event organizers.
Graduates can use the scholarships to attend any accredited school, including vocational training programs.
They don’t have to apply directly after high school graduation, and can use the scholarships anytime during their lives, Robinson said.
Last year, a woman who graduated in 1967 applied because she was going back to school, he said.
Scholarship Committee Treasurer Bill Brager said Sunday that, while not everything had been collected, the count so far indicated they raised $60,700 from the auction and $8,300 in cash donations.
