FORKS — Businessman Phil Kitchel is ready for a rematch.
On Tuesday, Kitchel announced his candidacy for the Clallam County commissioner seat for District No. 3, a position he held from 1995 through 1998.
Commissioner Mike Doherty, D-Port Angeles, defeated Kitchel by more than 1,500 votes in November 1998.
But Kitchel, 53, said he is ready to go head to head with Doherty again.
“I’m just excited and looking forward to it,” Kitchel said. “We’re optimistic it’s going to be a very successful endeavor.”
Doherty has yet to announce if he will seek re-election.
Kitchel and Doherty would both have to win their parties’ primary elections before facing each other in the November general election.
