NEAH BAY — The general manager of the Makah tribe has departed his position after almost three years working for the tribal council.
Bob Polasky, 52, left his position last week after the tribal council released him from his contract, which would have been up for renewal May 18.
Polasky on Saturday said he had been searching for other jobs for the past few months and did not plan to continue as general manager for a fourth year.
“We just mutually agreed between two parties that it was better to let him go, to release him and allow him to seek employment elsewhere,” council Chairman Nathan Tyler said Friday.
Polasky said he plans to remain in Neah Bay with his family through the summer, then find work with another tribal government — maybe in the Puget Sound area.
“Right now, I’m going to take some time off,” he said.
Patty Manuel, assistant general manager, has been appointed acting general manager until the tribe hires Polasky’s replacement, Tyler said.
The council hopes to fill the position in the next six months and will discuss when and how to advertise the opening this week, he said.
