PORT ANGELES — Two meetings explaining the status of the proposed ocean wave energy project off the Olympic Peninsula coast of the Makah Indian Reservation are planned later this month.
“It’s a presentation of status of the permitting process, what’s been accomplished so far,” said Ken Kukes, executive vice president of AquaEnergy Group Ltd.
Mercer Island-based AquaEnergy Group Ltd. hopes to generate electricity from ocean waves and transmit it to Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1’s power grid.
A buoy monitored ocean conditions from October 2002 through February at a location about 3.5 miles off Hobuck Beach, the planned location of a $2 million, four-buoy demonstration project.
The first public meeting is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Makah Community Hall, located at 81 Makah Passage in Neah Bay.
The second public meeting is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Clallam County PUD headquarters, located at 2431 East U.S. Highway 101 in Port Angeles.
