CLALLAM BAY — Drivers won’t save money by fueling up at Al’s Minimart in Clallam Bay, but at least they can still get gasoline there.
Two weeks ago, Gary Fernandez was planning to stop selling gasoline and curtail store hours in response to price increases he was facing at the minimart/gas station he co-owns with his dad, Al Fernandez.
He reported the price for a 12,000 gallon tanker load of regular unleaded gasoline jumped from $1.669 a gallon one week to $1.999 a gallon the next week.
Fernandez declined the high-priced gasoline saying he couldn’t compete with other stations.
At the time, Fernandez said he felt like the major oil companies were trying to put him and other independents out of business by increasing his prices until he couldn’t be competitive.
