NEAH BAY — As the fog lifted, the numerous seastacks, spires and arches of Shi Shi Beach were revealed.
Standing on the sandy shore with the Pacific Ocean roaring in the background a few weeks ago with two hiking companions we were convinced the beach is one of the most beautiful places we would ever see.
This was my third trip to Shi Shi Beach, but the first time walking along the recently opened three-mile Shi Shi Beach Access Trail built by the Makah Indian Tribe.
The new portion of the trail is about a mile in length and connects to a two-mile logging road.
The new portion of the trail was built after Makah officials couldn’t negotiate rights of way with private landowners.
