PORT ANGELES — Forks residents blasted county officials Tuesday night for plans to eliminate funds for West End animal control in unincorporated areas.
Sheriff Joe Hawe has said he plans to cut $27,000 from his budget in an effort to reduce expenses.
The city of Forks runs an animal shelter and provides animal control services within the city limits.
The county has previously contracted with Forks to provide animal control outside city limits.
But with budget cuts, unincorporated animal control services will be cut.
“I feel it’s unfair for the sheriff to eliminate $27,000 for animal control in the West End,” Tom Gillespie of Forks said.
