FORKS — A portion of the Upper Hoh Road in Jefferson County was shut down Thursday morning after two logging trucks exposed a 20-foot-deep sinkhole there.
The sinkhole, which devoured the entire width of the road for more than 10 feet, opened up as two trucks drove through a portion of the road six miles east of Highway 101.
One driver received minor injuries as his 30,000 pound truck sped through the collapsing roadway.
Danny Armer, 40, was taken to Forks Community Hospital for head injuries and later released.
“When the highway drops out underneath you, it isn’t fun,” Armer said. “I got pretty lucky.”
The road was closed shortly after 10 a.m., with contractors from Port Angeles working throughout the day to fill in the hole with rock and rip-rap.
