PORT ANGELES — Westport Shipyard Inc. could break ground on its new yacht-making plant by March and employ 100 people by the end of next year.
That was the message that Westport Vice President Larry Nelson brought to a Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Port Angeles CrabHouse restaurant Monday afternoon.
“I’m real excited about the future and about being here,” Nelson, vice president of administration, said.
“Most businesses what to be where they are wanted. I want to thank you all.”
Port Angeles competed with Anacortes for the $13 million yacht-making facility. Business and government leaders traveled to Grays Harbor County to woo Westport, and others telephoned the yacht-builder to offer information and invite the company to Port Angeles.
In early October, the company chose Port Angeles over Anacortes.
