In the photo at right, firefighters from Forks and Beaver mop up after a wildfire burned about an acre Sunday afternoon near a home along U.S. Highway 101 between Bear Creek and Snider.
Although the pump house was destroyed (click on the right arrow above the photo), the house was saved mainly because normal winds from the west blew the blaze away from the structure.
Firefighters said it might have been a different outcome Friday afternoon when a red flag warning was issued by the National Weather Service until 8 p.m. because of warm, dry winds blowing from the east to west.
Cause of Sunday’s fire was under investigation.
