FORKS — The city of Forks has declared a fire danger and imposed a burn ban.
A memo circulated from Fire Chief Bill Paul and Mayor Tim Fletcher announced the action.
Paul cited “exceptionally high temperatures coupled with occasional winds and wind gusts.”
“These conditions,” said the chief, “could allow open flame fires to suddenly spread out of control.”
The ban prohibits the use of propane or other propellant-based torches to burn weeds, grasses and brush in yards, parking lots, driveways and other areas.
It does not yet ban open-flame recreational fires, such as small open fire pits, fire rings and chimney-style fire pits.
Gas and briquette barbecues and smokers and similarly contained means of cooking food outdoors are also permitted during the ban.
