OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — An Indianapolis resident drowned at Ruby Beach, according to Olympic National Park.
Susan Newcome, 52, was pronounced dead at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles after she had been swept underwater by a wave on Wednesday, according to the park press release.
Olympic National Park rangers, Forks Ambulance and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the report of her being swept away at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
She was found unresponsive about 8 minutes later, the park said.
CPR was provided by first responders and bystanders on scene. A Life Flight helicopter evacuated Newcome and continued CPR. At Olympic Medical Center, she was pronounced deceased.
The incident is currently under investigation by the National Park Service.
