PORT ANGELES — An unidentified woman has been airlifted to a Seattle hospital and is reported to be in critical condition after a one-vehicle wreck at 4:45 p.m. today.
Witnesses had reported a vehicle traveling at an estimated 60 mph on Eighth Street before the crash, said Deputy Chief Brian Smith of the Port Angeles Police Department.
The vehicle left the roadway at the end of Eighth Street where a turn can be made to L Street, struck a guardrail and traveled another 100 feet before hitting a tree on the Hamilton Elementary School property, Smith said.
The woman was extricated from the wreck and taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles before she was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Smith said.
Smith did not know the woman driver’s name or age where she lives.
