Woman injured in single-vehicle crash

BRINNON — An Oregon woman is in stable condition after she drove into a ditch and hit an embankment and some trees south of Brinnon, according to the State Patrol.

Shirley A. Verluis, 52, was at Mason General Hospital after she crashed her car at about 12:52 p.m. Monday while driving south along U.S. Highway 101 near Pleasant Harbor, the State Patrol said.

Verluis was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol with an open container in the vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, wheels off roadway and not having insurance, according to the State Patrol report.

Verluis was driving south when she left the roadway to the right and struck a ditch and drainage rock and continued driving southbound. She struck an embankment and trees before coming to a rest off the roadway, the State Patrol report said.

Verluis was transported to Mason General Hospital, where a spokesman confirmed Verluis was in stable condition.

Her 2002 Hyundai Elantra was totally destroyed in the crash, the State Patrol report said.
