Woman whose cats were seized files lawsuit for millions of dollars

PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles woman filed a lawsuit on Thursday after 31 cats were seized from her mobile home on Wednesday.

At the same time, charges against Julie Yu, 52, will be considered by the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office, which will deal with the case from now on, said Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher.

“We will file all of the paperwork with the prosecutors, and they will decide whether she should be charged with anything,” he said on Thursday.

Yu’s lawsuit, filed in Clallam County District Court, demands the return of the cats.

She also seeks $100 million from the city of Port Angeles, $10 million from Clallam County, $1 million from veterinarian Dr. Virginia Johnson, and $200 million from veterinarian Dr. Paul Weiseth.

“I love them. All of them are my children,” Yu said. “I want my cats back.

“I took them to the vet, and then I got accused of hurting them. What do you want me to do?”

Yu said she does not have a lawyer, but that she will seek one in Poulsbo in the coming weeks.

The parties named in the lawsuit were not served on Thursday and could not be reached for comment.
