Wood stove causes fire that destroys Forks-area home

FORKS — A fire that originated in a wood stove gutted a single-wide mobile home just outside of Forks on Sunday.

Fourteen firefighters with Clallam County Fire District No. 1 extinguished the blaze at 1141 Hoh Ave. at about 8 p.m., and no one was injured, officials with the West End fire district said.

“It’s still standing, but it’s a total loss,” district Chief Bill Paul said.

A father and daughter who were inside the home made it out safely, and no animals were injured, Paul said.

The fire spread from a wood stove in the living room, Paul said.

“There was nothing suspicious about the fire,” said Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian King.

“The homeowner just started a fire.”

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control along Hoh Avenue, which is just southwest of Forks.

The fire was initially reported at 7:54 p.m., King said.

“When we arrived, it was partially involved,” Paul said.

“We knocked it down pretty quick.”

The Red Cross is assisting the family, Paul said.
