Woodworkers to display their art in Port Townsend this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — The eighth annual Port Townsend Woodworkers Show will be held at the American Legion Hall, Water and Monroe streets, on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 2-3).

Doors will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is free to the public.

The purpose of the show is to introduce Port Townsend to the community of woodworkers and provide an opportunity for woodworkers to present their work directly to the public in a relaxed and informal setting, organizers said in a release.

Exhibitors include furniture and cabinetmakers, luthiers and instrument makers, boat builders, carvers, sculptors, jewelers and turners.

This year’s show will feature new work and new exhibitors in addition to returning artists.

‘Not-a-Ball’

On Friday, the evening before the show, the Port Townsend School of Woodworking will present the “Woodworkers Not-a-Ball” — a Black Tie and Carhartts (or other costumes of choice) fancy dress party — from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Sirens Pub on Water Street.

Prizes will be given for the best costumes — his, hers and theirs.

Admission is by donation, a suggested $10 minimum, to the school’s Woodworkers of the Future Scholarship Fund.

Appetizers start at 6:30 p.m.

The event has a cash bar and is for ages 21 and older.

The show is organized and presented by The Splinter Group, comprised of local professional woodworkers John Boles, Steve Habersetzer, Michael Hamilton, Bob Larson, Tim Lawson, John Marckworth and Seth Rolland.

This year’s sponsors include Carl’s Building Supply, Edensaw Woods Ltd., Henery’s Do it Best Hardware, Port Townsend School of Woodworking and The Splinter Group.
