BRINNON — A crashed log truck blocked the northbound line of U.S. Highway 101 south of Brinnon for nearly nine hours today after its driver failed to negotiate a curve and spun out of control.
At approximately 5:25 a.m. a truck full of wood chips driven by David J. Sharnbroich, 57, of Port Angeles, a driver for Hermann Brothers Log and Construction of Port Angeles, was traveling south when he drove around a curve at a high speed and rolled over, the State Patrol said.
Sharnbroich will be cited for excessive speed, according to State Police spokesperson Krista Hedstrom.
The truck rolled onto its side, trapping Sharnbroich inside the cab.
He was extracted by members of the Brinnon Fire Department, who arrived on the scene within minutes, Chief Bob Herbst said.
Sharnbroich suffered minor injuries and was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend, he said.
Emergency personnel cleared the southbound lane soon after the wreck. The truck had come to rest in the northbound lane.
Traffic was routed into one lane until about noon, when a truck was brought in to move the wrecked vehicle from the road.
The road was completely closed for a brief time and re-opened fully at around 2 p.m., Herbst said.
