Write-in candidate wins seat in Clallam Bay-Sekiu-Neah Bay

CLALLAM BAY — Dan Elvrum, write-in candidate for a seat on the Cape Flattery School District Board of Directors, has won the seat.

Elvrum, 57, won 200 votes, or 55.4 percent, of the ballots mailed to registered voters, besting opponent Heather Greene, who secured 161 votes, or 44.6 percent, out of 361 total ballots returned in the school district.

The nonpartisan District 1 position on the School Board is for a four-year term to succeed longtime board member Shirley Johnson.

Elvrum, a Neah Bay High School graduate, is retired after working 35 years as a custodian and substitute bus driver for the Cape Flattery School District.

He did not immediately return a call for comment Saturday.

He said earlier that he ran as a write-in candidate after he missed the candidate filing deadline and that serving on the board has been a dream of his for nine years.

Greene, 39, is the human resources manager for the Makah tribe. She holds a bachelor’s degree in consumer science and business administration from the University of Arizona.

Greene also did not immediately return a call for comment Saturday.

The district has about 40 teachers and about 470 students at schools in the Neah Bay and Clallam Bay areas.
