PORT ANGELES — Commissioner of Public Lands continued to be the closest statewide race as ballot counts were updated Friday.
Former Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, a Republican, continued to lead the race with 22 percent of the vote, while Dave Upthegrove, a Democrat, had 21 percent and held a slight lead over Sue Kuehl Pederson, a Republican who had 20.5 percent.
The top two will advance to the Nov. 5 general election.
There were no additional changes after ballots were counted in Clallam County on Friday. In Clallam County, 7,000 ballots remain to be counted. The next count is scheduled to take place by 5 p.m. Monday. Voter turnout was 37.6 percent, just more than the statewide turnout of 36.7 percent.
In Jefferson County, 3,718 ballots remain to be counted. The next count is scheduled to take place by 4:30 p.m. Monday. Voter turnout in the county was 40.5 percent.
Results are unofficial until the election is certified Aug. 20.
