Kellso maintains slight lead in Clallam parks district contest

The Clallam County Parks and Recreation District 1 race for the Position 3 seat remained close after a fourth counts of ballots Tuesday in the Nov. 7 general election.

Robert Kellso edged ahead of two competitors Monday for the Clallam County Park and Recreation District 1 Commissioner Position 3 seat and continued his lead after Tuesday’s count.

Kellso had 4,095 votes, or 35.43 percent, for the four-year short and full term. He was leading Dick Neal, at 3,975 votes, or 34.39 percent, and Jason Bushman, at 3,467 votes, or 30 percent.

An automatic manual recount will be conducted if two candidates are separated by less than 150 votes and less than one-fourth percent. A machine recount could be called if the difference is less than 2,000 votes and one-half percent.

The next Clallam County ballot count will be by 5 p.m. today. Jefferson County did not count ballots in the all-mail election on Tuesday. The next count is to be by 4 p.m. Thursday.

Outcomes in other contested races were unchanged.

Clallam County reported a voter turnout Tuesday of 44.63 percent, or 25,599 ballots counted out of 57,359 provided to voters.

Jefferson County reported Monday a voter turnout of 42.2 percent, or 11,695 ballots counted out of 27,716 provided. It had about 419 ballots left to count.
