PORT ANGELES — Kiwanis pounded out 17 hits in the North Olympic Baseball and Softball 16U Softball Championship to knock off KONP 9-4 for the crown.
Lily Thomas, Abby Rudd, Mya Hartman and Maryrose Halberg all notched three hits for the winners, while Natalie Thompson added two hits, including a triple to start a pivotal four-run second inning.
Kennedy Rognlien, Alexis Perry and Kiana Grippo all added hits for Kiwanis.
Halberg was on the mound for Kiwanis. She kept KONP at bay with nine strikeouts and showed good command with just one walk.
“Defense for Kiwanis was on par with great plays from every infielder including a huge out at second base by catcher Perry who gunned down Lindsay Smith trying to steal,” coach Christine Halberg said.
Brooklyn Johnson and Sophia Ritchie shared the pitching duties for KONP with Johnson recording three strikeouts.
KONP had some big bats from Smith and Johnson with a pair of hits apiece.
Kenzie Moses, Ritchie, Evie Seelye and Bridget Weed each all added a hit.
KONP’s runs were scored by Ritchie, Moses, Johnson and Smith.
KONP’s outfielders stood out by catching five long fly balls throughout the game.
Kiwanis finished the season 12-1 with their only loss coming via forfeit.
