1A STATE TRACK AND FIELD: Port Townsend’s Stewart second in 300 hurdles; Coppenrath third in triple jump

CHENEY — Port Townsend’s Rebecca Stewart ran the 300-meter hurdles in a blazing 46.62 seconds to place second at the Class 1A state track and field meet at Eastern Washington University.

Stewart, a senior, also placed 10th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.13.

The Redskins had another top-three finish in the boys triple jump. Senior Skyler Coppenrath took third for the second consecutive year with a distance of 44-06.50, which shatters his previous personal best of 42-09 set at the Nisqually League championships.

Coppenrath won the 1A Tri-District title in the triple jump last week.

Port Townsend had two other top-10 finishes during Friday’s action.

Senior Trish Reeves cleared 5-02 to finish in seventh place in the girls high jump, and distance runner Ryan Clarke finished in ninth place in the boys 1,600-meter run.

Jewel Johnson was 14th in the 100 preliminaries with a time of 13.17 seconds for the Redskins.

Forks’ Jonny Law placed eighth in the shot put Saturday with a throw of 8-10. The sophomore also finished 13th in the discus, two spots ahead of teammate Miguel Morales, who took 15th with a 113-05.

In the girls 800-meter run, Kari Larson finished 16th for the Spartans with a time of 2:36.14.
