PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles sophomore Madison Cooke has been selected as Olympic League 2A Division MVP by Olympic League coaches in voting announced Friday.
Cooke, a standout forward for the state-tournament bound Roughriders (20-3), is averaging 16.8 points per game on the season while connecting on 50 percent of her shots from the floor. She also leads Olympic League and West Central District champion Port Angeles in rebounding with 10.4 boards per contest and is second in steals (3.3) and assists (2.8).
Sophomore classmate Millie Long, last season’s league MVP, was a first-team All-Olympic League selection for the Riders.
Long posted per-game averages of 8.8 points, 4 steals, 3.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds.
Long, who returned from a broken finger that kept her out of Port Angeles’ final six regular-season contests, returned for district tournament play and is expected to resume her role in the starting rotation for Saturday’s State Regional Round contest against Clarkston at Richland High School at 2 p.m.
Another Riders’ sophomore, Jaida Wood, also was a first-team pick. Wood is second on Port Angeles in scoring with 11 points per game and also hauls down 4.3 rebounds and averages 1.2 steals per outing.
Sequim sophomore post Jayla Julmist was a first-team honoree. She averages 10 points, 14 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two blocks per game. Wolves’ junior forward Hope Glasser also made the first team.
North Kitsap’s Noey Barreith and Raelee Moore rounded out the first-team picks.
Second-team selections include Port Angeles freshman Eve Burke and Sequim sophomore Kalli Wiker.
Burke puts up 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
Wiker is averaging 12 points and 42 percent shooting on 3-point shots this season.
Olympic League 2A Boys
PORT ANGELES — Seniors Liam Clark of Port Angeles and Nate Despain of Sequim were honored with inclusion on the Olympic League 2A Division first-team All-League squad in voting by league coaches.
North Kitsap’s Shaa Humphrey was selected as league MVP.
Fellow first-team picks were Olympic’s Caleb Morgan and Brandon Barron and North Kitsap’s Kobe McMillian.
Port Angeles put three seniors on the second team: guard Kyle Benedict and forwards Payton Schmidt and Garrett Edwards.
Other second-team picks were North Kitsap’s Logan Chmielewski and North Mason’s Ryan Pearson.
Olympic League 1A Girls
CHIMACUM — Chimacum sophomore guard Mia McNair was picked as Olympic League 1A MVP by league coaches.
McNair averaged around 20 points per contest for the Cowboys this season.
First-team picks were Chimacum seniors Jada Trafton and Grace Yaley, Port Townsend’s sophomore post Gina Brown and junior post Izzy Hammett along with Klahowya’s Katie Cooper.
Olympic League 1A Boys
PORT TOWNSEND — Three Jefferson County prep athletes were picked to the Olympic League 1A Division All-League Team.
Port Townsend senior Jayden Watkins and junior teammate Noa Montoya along with Chimacum senior Issac Purser were honored as first-team selections along with Klahowya’s Gabe Smith and Lucas Becker.
The Eagles’ senior John Hartford was voted MVP.
