AMERICAN LEGION AA: Wilder Jr. splits pair with Mount Vernon

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Jr. 16U team split a pair of games Saturday against Mount Vernon AA, dropping its first game 17-10, but bouncing back to win the second 12-5.

With the split, Wilder Jr. is 4-2 on the season.

In Saturday’s victory, Ethan Staples (Sequim) picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing three hits and three earned runs. He struck out seven. Landon Olson (Forks) pitched one inning and picked up a strikeout.

At the plate, Rylen Politika (Port Angeles) went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. It was his second game this season with both a double and a triple.

Staples was 3-for-3 and Olson was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Kaeden Indelicato (Port Angeles) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Gunner Rogers (Forks) had a hit and three RBIs, while Lincoln Bear (Sequim) had a double, a run scored and an RBI.

In the early game loss, Wilder Jr. collected 13 hits. Staples was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Bear was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Brandt Perry (Port Angeles) was 2-for-4, while Rogers was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Trae Hanan (Port Angeles) had a hit, a run scored, an RBI and three stolen bases.

Politika started and went three innings, allowing one hit and two earned runs while striking out four. Olson also pitched a scoreless inning.

Wilder Jr. next plays Tenino in Chehalis on Friday.
