AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Seibel, Hanan lift Wilder Juniors in doubleheader sweep of Sedro-Woolley

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball Club’s Junior Squad stayed red hot entering the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Classic, winning a pair of contests against AA American Legion league foe Sedro-Woolley at Volunteer Field on Tuesday.

Wilder (13-7) put together 6-4 and 6-3 triumphs against Sedro-Woolley to run their summer ball winning streak to five.

Brayden Boulden was an innings-eater on the mound for Wilder in game one, allowing four earned runs while scattering seven hits and a pair of walks in six innings on the hill. Boulden also tallied two strikeouts to earn the win.

Carston Seibel notched an RBI single to halve the Sedro-Woolley lead to 2-1 after one inning.

Wilder opened the game up by playing a little small ball to start a four-run third, with Ian Smithson reaching on an error to leadoff the frame, followed by Bryce DeLeon’s bunt single.

Smithson came home on a Seibel ground out to tie the game up and Wilder added three more, highlighted by Hunter Stratford’s two-run fielder’s choice which put the Junior squad up 5-2 on Sedro-Woolley.

Brandt Perry reached base in all three at-bats, leading Wilder Jr. with two hits and also picking up a walk.

Sequim’s Lincoln Bear stole two bases in the win.

Trae Hanan allowed a walk but otherwise wasn’t touched to close out the contest and pick up the save.

In game two, Wilder went up 4-0 after the first two innings.

Bear came through with an RBI single to put the Juniors on the board 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

After an Easton Fisher walk and a single by Rylan Dunn, Brandt Perry drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ian Smithson, who was pinch running for Bear.

Owen Leitz was then plunked with the sacks full for a 3-0 Wilder lead after one.

Hanan stepped up at the plate as the No. 9 hitter in the lineup, opening the second with a double, moving to third on a wild pitch and coming around to score on a DeLeon sacrifice fly. He went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead Wilder at the plate.

Stratford struck out eight in five innings for Wilder to earn the win on the mound.

Seibel pitched two clean innings to pick up the save, striking out an impressive five batters.

Wilder Junior opened Firecracker play late Wednesday against Colts Black and will continue the tournament against the Shoreline Royals 18U squad tonight at 4:30 p.m. at Civic Field.
