AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Senior rally comes up short

ANACORTES — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club came back from a 5-0 first-inning deficit againt Anacortes, but its rally fell short in a 6-4 loss to Anacortes on Friday.

After starter Kaleb Mullen struggled with his control in the first inning, Brian Guttormsen came in to the game in the first inning and pitched outstanding. Guttormsen ended up going 5⅓ innings, allowing four hits and an earned run while striking out four.

While Guttormsen shut down Anacortes, Wilder Senior rallied with three runs in the third and another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Ezra Townsend. With a Wilder Sr. runner on third base and one out, Anacortes was able to end the game with a pair of strikeouts.

Elijah Flodstrom had a hit, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Alex Angevine, Tate Alton, Rylen Politika and Blake Sohlberg all had hits. Politika, who moved up from the Wilder Junior team where he was batting .417 with seven extra-base hits, also had an RBI.

Wilder Senior (7-9) had games scheduled this weekend in Mount Vernon against opponents to be determined, then the team returns to Port Angeles on Thursday to play in the Dick Brown Firecracker tournament at Civic Field and Volunteer Field. Wilder Senior begins by playing the Shoreline Royals 18U team at 7 p.m Thursday at Civic Field.
