AMERICAN LEGION: Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker begins Thursday

PORT ANGELES — The Dick Brown Firecracker Memorial Tournament returns to Civic Field slightly early this year, with games beginning Thursday for the four-day tournament.

The tournament is often times held over the Fourth of July weekend, but it is a couple of days early this year because the Port Angeles Lefties are in town over the Fourth of July. The Dick Brown tournament will run from Thursday to Sunday this week.

Tickets are $5 each and there are $25 family passes available.

There will be four games Thursday through Saturday, at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wilder Senior coach Zac Moore said the team played well this past weekend with a victory Saturday and taking a good Aces 18U team to 11 innings before losing by one run.

Volunteers are still being sought for concession stands and running the gate. People interested can contact Moore at 360-461-2342.

All of Wilder Senior’s games are at 7 p.m. Wilder Senior will play the Shoreline Royals on Thursday, Excelsior on Friday and the Colts Red, who have been at the tournament in years past, on Saturday.

Sunday games will feature consolation, semifinal and championship games. Games will be held at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Sequim duo to tee up

WALLA WALLA — Sequim High School graduates Sean O’Mera and Adam Columbia will tee it up beginning today at the 102nd Washington Men’s Amateur Championship at the Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.

The championship will consist of 54 holes of stroke play over three days, with the field cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes.

O’Mera lives in Sequim and coaches the boys golf team for Sequim High School. Columbia now lives in Lakewood.

This year’s championship received over 400 entries from those vying for a spot in the field of 120. O’Mera and Columbia both qualified by one stroke at a qualifier held earlier this month at The Home Course in DuPont.
