AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Jr. concludes season at AA tournament

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Jr.’s American Legion season came to a close with a pair of losses Friday in the American League AA Area 1 postseason tournament.

Wilder Jr. was in both games, but couldn’t muster a lot of hits. They lost 6-2 to the Mount Vernon Riverdogs and 5-4 to the Blaine Borderites in the tournament played at Civic Field this weekend.

Against Mount Vernon, Wilder Jr. had four hits by Alex Angeveine, Braydan White, Tate Alton and Ethan Staples.

Starting pitcher Blake Sohlberg allowed just five hits and two walks, but allowed four earned runs. He struck out four in four innings. Luke Flodstrom allowed two hits and an earned run in one inning and Rylan Politika pitched a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit.

Wilder Jr. made just one error in the loss.

Against Blaine, Wilder Jr. had three hits, two of them coming from Nathan Basden. One of Basden’s hits was a double and he scored a run and drove in one. Staples had a hit and a walk and scored a run. Sohlberg was 0-for-2, but drove in two runs.

On the mound, the duo of Kaleb Mullen and Cole Beeman did well. Mullen only allowed two hits, but did walk six. He allowed five earned runs in 5⅓ innings. Beeman pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and no runs. He struck out one.
