AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Jr. pitchers’ dominate in doubleheader sweep

BELLINGHAM — Wilder Jr. improved its record to 9-3 with spectacular pitching in a two-game sweep over Bellingham Post 7 and Meridian on Saturday.

In 12 innings of play, Wilder Jr. pitchers allowed just seven hits and one earned run, while striking out 14 batters.

Wilder Jr. beat Bellingham Post 7 10-0 on a three-hitter by Joey Hildebrandt in Game 1, then beat Meridian again 6-1 on a four-hitter by Landon Seibel.

In Game 1, Hildebrandt went five innings, striking out seven and walking two. At the plate, Michael Grubb went 2 for 4, with both hits doubles. He scored twice and drove in a run. He also stole a base.

Silas Thomas went 2 for 2 with a triple with two runs scored and two RBIs and a walk. Trey Baysinger went 1 for 1, with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Seibel went 0 for 2 with a run scored, two RBIs and a walk. Logan Olson went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

In Game 2 against Meridian, Seibel pitched a full seven innings, striking out seven and allowing no walks.

At the plate, Baysinger went 2 for 4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Hildebrandt went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Kamron Meadows went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Thomas went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Kaleb Ripley and Grubb each had a hit and a run scored.

Wilder Jr. improves its record to 9-3, 4-1 in the American Legion Area 1 League. Wilder Jr. plays two games in Anacortes today with the first game against Anacortes at noon and the second game against Burlington at 2:30 p.m.
