AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Jr.’s Hunter Stratford fires no-hitter

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Junior Baseball Club capped off a highly successful weekend by beating a good Wilder A team 8-3 late Sunday behind a no-hitter thrown by Hunter Stratford.

Wilder Jr. won five out of six games over the weekend in a busy few days at Volunteer Field, playing most of their games against traveling World Baseball Showcase Colts teams. They added a game against the younger Wilder A team to finish off the weekend.

Against Wilder A, Stratford went four innings, allowing one earned run while striking out two. He walked seven and Wilder A was able to score some runs on those walks.

Ethan Staples was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while Landen Olson was 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Lincoln Bear was 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Aiden Swenson had a hit, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. Brandt Perry also had a hit and an RBI.

For Wilder A, Carston Seibel walked and scored a run on an error, while Brayden Martin walked and scored a run on a groundout by Garrett Buerer, who collected an RBI. Rylan Dunn walked and came around to score on a passed ball.

On the mound, Owen Leitz started for Wilder A, going two innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. He struck out two. Harris Bower pitched an inning, allowing one hit. He struck out one.

In other Sunday games, the Colts finally broke through for a 10-2 win against Wilder Jr. Wilder Jr. went 4-0 against Colts teams Friday and Saturday.

Staples had a hit and run scored, while Gunner Rogers and Lincoln Bear each had a hit and an RBI. Bryce DeLeon also had a single. Lincoln Bear struck out three in two innings on the mound.

Wilder A got solid pitching from Maeson Grice and Andre Campbell in a 4-1 loss to the Colts early Sunday. Grice went four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Campbell went three innings, allowing just one hit and one run.

Martin had a hit and a run scored for Wilder A, while Easton Fisher and Bubba Hernandez each had hits.

Wilder Jr. (13-7) played the Stanwood Cannons on Monday, then play a doubleheader against Lynden at Volunteer Field, beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Wilder Sr. (9-13) is next set to play at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue on Thursday against the Narrows 18U Select team out of Gig Harbor. Wilder A (11-5) is set to play in Seattle on July 12.
