AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. comeback falls just short

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club was left still looking for its first win of the year after a comeback in the ninth inning against the Narrows 18U team fell just short in a 7-6 loss.

Monday’s game was the home opener for the American Legion seniors team.

Wilder pitchers kept Narrows completely in check for eight out of nine innings as the Gig Harbor-based team scored all seven of its runs in the sixth inning.

Down 7-1, Wilder scored two runs in the seventh, one in the eighth on an RBI double by Josiah Gooding and two more in the ninth to make it close.

Ethan Staples had a double in the ninth to help create the rally. Brayden White also had a single, and both he and Staples came around to score.

Staples finished with two RBIs. White was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Jordan Shumway was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Landen Olson started the game, going four innings and allowing four hits and no runs. He struck out one. White also pitched well, going three innings and allowing one hit.

Wilder (0-4) has started the season with some tough luck, losing three of its first four games in close contests.

Wilder Senior goes back on the road for a four-game series in Selah on Saturday and Sunday with two games against Hanford and two more against Yakima Valley. Wilder Senior returns home for four games against Whatcom Post No. 7 on June 15-16.

Wilder Junior plays six games at Mount Vernon on Friday, Lynden on Saturday and against the BurlSox24 on Sunday.
