AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. crushes it in doubleheader sweep

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Senior continued its dominance of AAA American Legion League opponents, allowing virtually no offense from their opponents while mashing the ball around the ballpark at the plate.

Wilder swept Snohomish 11-3 and 13-1 on Saturday, allowing a total of five hits, all singles, in the doubleheader. Meanwhile, Wilder had 26 hits, including six extra-base hits, on the afternoon.

The sweep pushes Wilder’s record to 7-0 on the season, including 4-0 in the Area 1 AAA American Legion League. Wilder had a tough test on Sunday, playing an 8-0 Lakeside team (results of those games will be posted online at www.peninsuladailynews.com today.)

In Game 1, the Wilder duo of Jadon Seibel and Timmy Adams combined on a three-hitter. Seibel went the first inning, giving up two earned runs on one hit and three walks. Adams took over in the second, going six full innings, allowing no earned runs, one hit and one walk while striking out five, earning the victory.

Meanwhile, Wilder collected 14 hits. Gavin Guerrero was 4 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Ethan Flodstrom, who had a huge day overall, was 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Brody Merritt was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk. Joel Wood was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk.

Bo Bradow was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Milo Whitman was 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Hayden Woods had a triple and an RBI.

Game 2 only went five innings. Flodstrom started the game, giving up one hit and walking none while striking out seven. Bradow pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits and no earned runs while striking out two.

Wilder pounded out 12 hits in five innings. Flodstrom again had a big game at the plate, hitting a triple, scoring two runs and driving in two. He also walked.

Wood was 4 for 4 at the plate with three runs scored and an RBI. Whitman was 3 for 4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs. Hall was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and Guerrero was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk. Adams was 0 for 2 with a run scored and a walk. Lucas Jarnigan was 0-2 with a run scored, a walk and an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Wilder Senior is entering into the meat of their season. They play Lakeside BR on the road in a twinbill on Friday and play another twinbill against Lakeside on the road Sunday. From July 2 to July 7, they play six games in Port Angeles against a traveling team from Australia and at the Firecracker Tournament.

Wilder Jr. loses early game

ANACORTES — Wilder Jr. saw its winning streak snapped with an 11-4 loss to Anacortes on Sunday afternoon.

Anacortes scored five runs in the fourth inning and tacked on three more in the sixth to pull away.

Wilder Jr. was only able to manage six hits. Michael Grubb went 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Joey Hildebrandt hit a triple, scoring a run and driving in a run. Hildebrandt also had a walk.

Beckett Jarnigan, Logan Olson and Kaleb Ripley all had hits.

Wilder Jr. was hurt by six errors as only five out of Anacortes’ 11 runs were earned. Silas Thomas started the game on the mound, giving up one earned run in 3 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking none. Anacortes scored six unearned runs against him, however, as he took the loss.

Wilder Jr. (9-4) played Burlington late Sunday afternoon. Results of that game were after press deadline.

Crosscutters drop two

BELLINGHAM — The Olympic Crosscutters came close on the road, but a late run by Meridian was the difference in a 3-2 loss in an American League AA League game.

The Cutters’ Tanner Woodley pitched a great game Saturday, going six innings and giving up just six hits and three earned runs. He struck out one and walked five.

Trailing 2-1, the Cutters scored a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Dalton Kilmer walked and then stole second base and Elijah Flodstrom drove him in with a single.

But Meridian came right back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a run on a pair of singles to retake the lead. Meridian was able to strike out the side in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

Elisha Dujue was 2 for 3 with a double, while Trenton Indelicato had a double. Flodstrom tallied two RBIs, while Hunter Robinson also had a hit.

The Crosscutters (2-3) also lost 9-2 to Bellingham Post No. 7 on Saturday.

Dujue was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Robinson and Kilmer also had hits, with Kilmer adding an RBI. Zane Glassock also had an RBI.

On the mound, Flodstrom went 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, seven walks and three earned runs while taking the loss. He struck out five.
