Last weekend for chinook in Marine Area 5

SEKIU — Anglers have today and Sunday to reel in the last blackmouth chinook of the season.

Data indicates this fishery has reached 90 percent of the chinook sublegal encounters (3,849 of 4,263) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries, according to state Department of Fish and Wildlife fisheries managers.

This rule change does not affect the scheduled halibut season in Sekiu and Pillar Point (Marine Area 5).

Pirates 3-on-3 tourney

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will host the Pirate 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on May 20-21.

There will be an adult male bracket for players who are out of high school and older; a high school male bracket and a women’s bracket for high school-age and older players.

Each bracket will have an eight-team maximum.

Four games are guaranteed — three games of round robin play on May 20 to provide seeding for single elimination tournament play on May 21.

Format will be Spokane Hoopfest rules with 25-minute games or the first team to 20 points using one and two-point baskets is the winner.

Teams must have a minimum of four players and can have a maximum of five.

The cost is $120 and there will be T-shirts for bracket winners.

Babe Ruth no-hitter

Kaeden Indelicato tossed a complete-game no hitter, striking out seven in five innings as Athletes Choice beat Forks 17-0 in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball.

Seven of Athletes Choice’s 11 hits were doubles. Kody Williams was 3 for 4, Andre Campbell doubled twice and Easton Fisher had a strong performance behind the plate, according to coach Robert Elofson-Gilbertson.

Discovery Bay cleared

Recent clam samples from Discovery Bay showed declining levels for the biotoxin that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP), and the state Department of Health has opened Discovery Bay for recreational harvesting of all shellfish species.
