Mountain bike team forming for area youth

PORT ANGELES — An informational meeting for a new youth coed mountain bike team for riders in grades six through 12 will be held at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

No mountain biking experience is required to join the North Olympic Mountain Bike team, which will serve the Sequim, Port Angeles and Joyce areas as a Clallam County 4H club.

Riders’ tennis wins

CHIMACUM — Port Angeles swept short-handed Chimacum 7-0 in an Olympic League boys tennis match Monday.

The Riders, now 6-2, had a few close matches, but were able to secure the sweep.

“Chimacum battled and played us tough, but we were able to come through in the end,” said coach Brian Gundersen.

Port Angeles traveled to Kingston late Tuesday and hosts rival Sequim (6-2) today at 4 p.m. at the high school courts.

Youth basketball

PORT TOWNSEND — Junior hoops basketball registration with Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is underway.

The youth basketball program is open to children in Port Townsend, Port Hadlock, Chimacum, Quilcene and Brinnon.

Divisions include Pre-K and Kinder (coed) ($60-includes custom T-shirt); first and second grade ($65-includes custom T-shirt); and third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade ($85-includes a numbered, reversible jersey).

Those in grades three through six with jerseys from last season can deduct $20 from the registration fee.

The deadline to register is Nov. 1. Those who register after Nov. 1 will be placed on a wait list and incur a $10 late fee.

Volunteer coaches are also sought.

A coach’s meeting will be held at the Jefferson County Rec Center, 620 Tyler Street, in Port Townsend, on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Pre-K/Kindergarten and first and second-grade coaches will meet at 5:30 p.m. and coaches in grades three through six will meet at 6:30 p.m.
